The Land & it's People

Woven Wild gathering is nestled into the lush forests of Mid North Coast NSW. The climate and biodiversity of this area over time has created a very abundant environment for a wide variety of plants and animals to thrive and therefore a home for humans for a very long time. Today there is still remanence of old growth forest nearby, in areas that were too steep to log. The surrounding land is diverse from dry rocky outcrops to lush rainforest gullies with little spring fed creeks.

Woven WIld is held on the traditional lands of the Ngambaa people (pronounced ‘num-bar’) which means ‘tribe that lived between nations’ and is located on the boundary between the Gumbaynggir and Dunghutti nations.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land and acknowledge the honour and privilage of gathering here in sisterhood, giving deep reverence and gratitude for the opportunity to evolve and grow in our understanding and connection to these lands and its traditional people and culture. We are in a continuing relationship of educating ourselves through connection, listening, research and story sharing with the Ngaamba/Gumayngirr/Dunghutti people. We are committed to continuing to build relationships and welcome all Ngaamba/Gumbayngirr/Dunghutti women.

We hold a deep prayer that this gathering will serve as a returning to country for all of the participants of this gathering, deepening their own connection to the land, its history and the medicine that it holds. May this remembrance serve as an awakening to our responsibility to be in right relationship with the land, honouring our custodianship as children of the earth.

We honour and give great thanks to the currant and modern day custodians of this land, who live here with their sweet family, offering this land to this festival with so much love and passion and who hold a deep and heartfelt vision to live in right relationship with the land and protect its cultural heritage, seeking and welcoming guidance from local elders to deepen their own awareness and understanding of these ways.
